Press Release

In Guinea, health professionals with little or no formal supply chain training are often the decision makers in this important  area. This leads to poor planning to maintain the supply of essential medicines.

To help build a more resilient health system in Guinea, USAID’s Global Health Supply Chain Program has supported the Ministry of Health since 2017 to develop a strategic supply chain plan where training human resources is one of its four   priorities.

In 2021, USAID signed an agreement  with Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry (UGANC), Kofi Annan University of Guinea (UKAG) and La Source University, three  Guinean universities providing specialized training in pharmacy. The aim was to introduce and facilitate the training in healthcare product supply chain for final year students in pharmacy management.

In collaboration between USAID and these three universities, 340 students were trained in health product supply chain management. La Source University worked with USAID to integrate the training modules into the curriculum of pharmacy students and to train teachers who are responsible for delivering pharmacy courses.

This year, USAID continues its efforts to improve timely and uninterrupted supply of quality health products in the communities through transformative supply chain solutions. The program is partnering with La Source University to train a first cohort of 50 pharmacists from the private sector in supply chain management of medications, vaccines and related supplies.
