USAID partners with the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources; Municipal, Metropolitan, and District Assemblies; private water suppliers; and communities to strengthen Ghanaians’ access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services. Assistance focuses on:

  • Partnerships with local providers to expand small town water systems and bore-hole construction or rehabilitation.
  • Collaboration with local institutions to achieve WASH-safe health and education facilities.

In 2021, USAID supported 169 communities to adopt Community-led Total Sanitation that led those communities to attain Open Defecation Free status.

USAID also designed flood-resistant latrine construction and utilization, and access to safe drinking water and handwashing stations in northern Ghana.
