Beneficiary Countries: St. Kitts & Nevis, Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Grenada, Trinidad & Tobago and Suriname
Objective: Strengthen the juvenile justice system throughout the Eastern Caribbean. The program will provide support to address deficiencies in the juvenile justice sector thereby taking the countries closer to meeting international standards. The program will include:
● Strengthening legal and regulatory frameworks,
● Modernization approaches to juvenile justice including reforms to diversion, detention and rehabilitation processes,
● Building capacity in the system including training of key personnel and provision of appropriate tools to ensure a functional system,
● Building public awareness and civil society advocacy for improved juvenile justice systems, and
● Providing support to address deficiencies in the juvenile justice sector thereby taking the countries closer to meeting international standards
Program Status: The OECS Secretariat has commenced mobilization of activities in each of the six countries and will conduct inter-ministry meetings in each country over the next three months that will lead to definition of program initiatives to be funded under the program. Development of programming options is underway for Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago.
