Today, on World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, in a video address a group of Kazakhstani youth spoke to their peers across the country to raise awareness about human trafficking.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Safe Migration in Central Asia program, implemented by Winrock International, and its partners from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Uzbekistan have launched a digital campaign to raise public awareness about human trafficking and measures to identify and avoid being trafficked. The campaign will conclude on July 30, World Day against Trafficking in Persons.

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Social Innovation in Central Asia program hosted the first virtual annual Regional Transparency Forum to facilitate an exchange of ideas and experience on improving transparency and accountability among Central Asian countries.

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) today inaugurated its Regional Water and Vulnerable Environment program in Turkmenistan. On July 5, 2021, six analysts and advocates from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan started a week-long study tour on open budgeting and transparency in public financial management in Tbilisi, Georgia. The study tour is organized by Eurasia Foundation through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Civil Society Support Program in Central Asia. Georgia is a member of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) and ranked fifth in the world according to the Open Budget Index. The study tour participants will learn from Georgia’s path to transparency, indicating areas for potential cooperation and applying lessons learned.

On June 24, 2021, Almaty-based civil society organization “Dva Kryla” began a unique ecological project “Trash Fleet”. A team of eco-activists, volunteers, and bloggers are sailing on the Ili River on rafts built with garbage collected on the banks of Ili and from Almaty city. The project is implemented with the support of Eurasia Foundation through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Civil Society Support Program in Central Asia activity.

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Kazakhstan Agency for International Development (KazAID) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to increase cooperation on development assistance that fosters social, political, and economic stability and security in Central Asia and Afghanistan.

Today the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) hosted a virtual meeting to discuss the status of the Central Asia regional electricity market (CAREM) Roadmap and next steps to creating an integrated regional market.

From April 6 to June 18, 2021, the Central Asia Media Program held its second Media Law Marathon, a series of online lectures for law students in Kazakhstan. The lecture series aims to build a network of media law specialists across the country. The training was organized by the Legal Media Center, a longtime partner of Internews.
