People living with HIV (PLHIV) in Vietnam are estimated to be at six times greater risk of mental illness compared to the general population. Last week, at an event to mark World AIDS Day, staff from the USAID/PATH Support for Technical Excellence and Private Sector Sustainability in Vietnam (STEPS) project shared information on mental health care and where to access comprehensive services with more than 100 PLHIV and community-based organization staff. The session was also live streamed, reaching an additional 700 viewers and receiving 155 shares.

Given that PLHIV are at elevated risk of poor mental health, which can reduce treatment adherence, retention in care, and overall health, it is vital that comprehensive mental health information and services be made available among PLHIV and providers to promote greater access to and use of services.
