Tuberculosis also known as TB is the top infectious disease killer globally. Annually it is estimated that Vietnam has over 11,000 TB deaths -- more than the number of deaths caused by traffic accidents.

The country has made good progress to address the TB epidemic demonstrated by TB's declining prevalence over the past 10 years. However, it is estimated that each year 170,000 people become sick from TB in Vietnam but only around 100,000 are notified.

This means that nearly 70,000 people are missing and they may be in the community but not diagnosed, or they are diagnosed but not notified to the national TB program system.
