2021 - 2025 | IMPLEMENTER: FULBRIGHT UNIVERSITY VIETNAM | PLANNED BUDGET: $25,000,000

Launched in 2016, Fulbright University Vietnam is Vietnam’s first independent, not-for-profit, liberal arts university. Founded on Vietnamese-American partnership, the Fulbright model is based on American traditions of rigorous liberal arts education, and is firmly rooted in Vietnam’s culture and heritage. U.S. government support for Fulbright dates back to 1994 with the establishment of the Fulbright Economics Teaching Program, which became the foundation of Fulbright’s graduate school. The U.S. Agency for International Development’s (USAID) continues to support Fulbright to build a strong and sustainable higher education institution, delivering world-class education, and serving as a vanguard in Vietnam’s efforts to reform its higher education system. STRENGTHEN SUSTAINABILITY AND GROWTH

As Fulbright becomes a more established institution, USAID is supporting Fulbright to build a sustainable model for higher education, expand its student body, and plan for a world-class campus. USAID’s support helps Fulbright develop and implement strategic plans, university policies, governance practices, operational systems, and internal quality assurance. USAID is also supporting Fulbright to diversify revenues through non-degree programs and executive education, such as the Fulbright Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation’s Leadership Development Program for corporate managers.

ENHANCE ACADEMIC PROGRAMS AND RESEARCH CAPACITY

USAID supports Fulbright plans to expand and enhance the quality of academic and degree offerings, increase faculty and academic staff, and grow student recruitment and enrollment as it looks forward to transitioning to a new campus. USAID supports Fulbright’s pursuit of U.S.-based institutional accreditation through the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) to meet international standards for educational excellence and quality assurance. USAID is also supporting Fulbright to enhance partnerships with private sectors and higher educational institutions through experiential learning and sponsored research initiatives that enhance Fulbright’s research and innovation leadership.

IMPACT: A MODEL FOR HIGHER EDUCATION IN VIETNAM

USAID’s support is expected to help Fulbright establish itself as a self-sustaining, recognized, and impactful world-class university that prepares a new generation of leaders from across the country to tackle 21st century challenges and drive Vietnam’s socio-economic development.
