Reed Aeschliman is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service. Prior to beginning his current assignment as Mission Director to Bangladesh in August 2023, Mr. Aeschliman served as Mission Director in Pakistan (2022-2023), and Sri Lanka and Maldives (2018-2022). He also held positions in Washington, DC as Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Asia Bureau (2016- 2018), and as the Director of the Office of Energy & Infrastructure in the Bureau for Economic Growth, Education and Environment (2015-2016). From 2011 to 2015, he served as Deputy Mission Director of USAID/Philippines & Pacific Islands. Earlier USAID postings include Afghanistan, Cambodia, and India.
Throughout his Foreign Service career, Mr. Aeschliman managed the design and implementation of a full range of Democratic and Economic Governance, Environment, Education, and Infrastructure programs.
Before joining USAID in 2000, Mr. Aeschliman served as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Thailand. He also practiced law through an appointment as Assistant Law Director for the City of Akron, Ohio, and private practice in Columbus, Ohio. While working as a private attorney, he engaged in international legal consulting assignments in Southeast Asia and China.
Mr. Aeschliman holds a Master’s Degree in International Affairs, Southeast Asian Studies from Ohio University, and a Jurist Doctorate from the University of Akron School of Law.
