USAID Inclusive Livelihoods-Central

2022 - 2025 | Disability and Development Partners (DDP) | $500,000 Funding

OVERVIEW

USAID Inclusive Livelihoods-Central promotes inclusion and economic empowerment of people with disabilities in the urban and rural districts of central Nepal through mobilization, increased access to training and livelihoods, and an ambitious national initiative to promote inclusive employment.

HIGHLIGHT

USAID Inclusive Livelihoods-Central establishes self-help groups for persons with disabilities.  These groups facilitate mutual support for income generation; enhance employment prospects of youth with disabilities; and promote enabling legal, regulatory, and cultural environments for their full participation in economic sectors.

USAID Creates Opportunities for Marginalized Groups:

USAID brings together a coalition of organizations representing persons with disabilities and the National Federation of Disabled Nepal. It builds on the advocacy efforts in employment law, inclusive terminology and media awareness, sets standards for inclusive employers at the national level, and pushes for the implementation of these laws, policies, and standards.

USAID is Committed to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility:

USAID builds greater economic independence and resilience for people with disabilities and their caregivers by establishing 20 women-led self help groups in Thakre and Gokarneshwor municipalities.  Reaching more than 360 members, USAID is advising them on setting up small enterprises for income generation and savings.  To enhance employment prospects of young adults with disabilities including physical, sensory and psycho-social needs, more than 200 young people are accessing vocational training, mentorship, internships, and direct work experiences in high demand market areas. Access to assistive devices and community based rehabilitative services are also being expanded through referral and coordination with other partners.

USAID Bolsters Local Government’s Engagement with Marginalized Groups:

USAID works closely with the municipal Women, Children and Senior Citizens Office in target districts to ensure local government is accountable and promotes the rights of all women, including those with disabilities.
