The potential increase of tourism in Vietnam after COVID-19 raises concerns about the resurgence of the demand for elephant ivory and other illegal wildlife products. Quang Ninh province, a destination for both domestic and international tourists, is identified as one of hotpots for illegal wildlife products to meet the demand for travelers. At the Quang Ninh Food Festival 2023, USAID’s Saving Threatened Wildlife project set up an exhibition booth to spread messages of wildlife protection and promote demand reduction for illegal wildlife products. The booth utilized live images and interactive games to attract visitors and educate them on actions that they could take to stop the use of illegal wildlife products.

By supporting activities involving the tourism industry like this, USAID can help local authorities to raise awareness of the public on wildlife protection and reducing demand for illegal wildlife products.
