The Lecture Pour Tous Program, administered by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), has reached nearly 500,000 students in 4,000 schools in six of Senegals 14 regions. This 42 billion FCFA ($73 million) investment by the United States has supported the Ministry of National Education to improve learning outcomes by strengthening reading instruction in three national languages, namely Wolof, Serer, and Pulaar.

Lecture Pour Tous has trained 13,825 teachers and 4,668 school directors in dynamic, evidence-based approaches to reading instruction.  Over the course of the five-year project, Lecture Pour Tous has increased the availability and use of quality learning materials, improved teacher skills and behaviors, and enhanced parental and community support for reading.  Lecture Pour Tous has produced, printed, and distributed more than three million teaching and learning materials - ensuring children in Senegal have the books they need to learn to read.

[[nid:434626]] Mr. Mamadou Talla, Minister of National Education, co-presided over the closeout event on December 9th with the USAID Mission Director, Mr. Peter Trenchard, in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Education, regional education representatives, implementing partners, and beneficiaries who exchanged testimonials and celebrated the program's achievements.

The event highlighted ongoing efforts to expand the successes of Lecture Pour Tous through Senegal’s national bilingual education reform, Modèle harmonisé d’éducation bilingue au Sénégal (MOHEBS), to be implemented in 2022.

This year, USAID is celebrating its 60th anniversary of partnership in Senegal.  This close-out event provides a concrete example of the agency’s work over the last six decades improving access to education, and the quality of education, for Senegalese children who are critical to addressing Senegal’s development challenges and opportunities.
