In Balata, located in the Madre De Dios region, there used to be leafy trees. Today there are large areas of sand, bushes and debris. Therefore, we are happy to share the reforestation efforts in Balata, an area affected by illegal gold mining. Together with the Peruvian Army, we are working to revitalize this area degraded by illegal mining. The Amazon Scientific Innovation Center (CINCIA), a joint effort of USAID and Wake Forest University, promotes this activity in collaboration with the National Institute of Agrarian Innovation (INIA) and the Peruvian Army.
