Katie Donohoe serves as the Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator for Africa. Her portfolio includes West Africa and Sustainable Development. She served as the Deputy Mission Director in Nigeria from 2019 - 2022 helping to lead a talented group of nearly Americans and Nigerians implementing a portfolio of over one billion dollars in assistance.

Ms. Donohoe is a career member of the Senior Foreign Service and has served in Africa, Asia, the Middle East and Washington. She directed USAID Egypt’s education and health portfolio, reshaping the Agency’s largest higher education program to increase university capacity and improve sustainability. In Washington, as the Deputy Director of global education she expanded the office, operationalizing the education strategy to strategically shift USAID education programs. In Pakistan she led the expansion of the education program, designing and implementing some of the Agency’s first direct grants to local governments, and established regional education teams in Lahore and Karachi. She also served as the Country Desk Officer for Zambia and Angola, and as an education officer and the Deputy Director of the Health Office in Zambia.

Prior to USAID, Katie led development efforts at a small US - Africa policy NGO. As a Peace Corps volunteer in Madagascar she worked as a teacher and teacher trainer in a rural northern town. A native of Rochester Hills, Michigan, Ms. Donohoe received a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and Masters degrees from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) and the National War College.
