Administrator Power expressed her appreciation for our close collaboration across multilateral fora including the United Nations, G7, G20, and the OECD’s Development Assistance Committee to advance common global humanitarian and development priorities. She thanked Japan for its staunch engagement as a leader and donor in international humanitarian and development assistance over many years, including its more than $34 million to address the drought in the Horn of Africa.
The Administrator shared her impressions of her recent trip to Pakistan to visit flood-affected communities and her engagement with the Government of Pakistan on flood response. She encouraged Japan’s continued leadership on championing disaster risk reduction and climate adaptation efforts. The Administrator welcomed JICA’s views on support to Sri Lanka as they navigate challenging fiscal reforms. The two discussed potential collaboration to support recovery efforts and planning for Ukraine’s reconstruction.
Administrator Power and President Tanaka also discussed approaches to support countries undergoing democratic reforms and the potential for trilateral cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and globally.
