The below is attributable to Spokesperson Rebecca Chalif:‎

Today, Deputy Administrator for Policy and Programming Isobel Coleman met with United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Martin Griffiths to reinforce USAID’s long-standing support for the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in responding to humanitarian crises, including in Afghanistan and Ethiopia.

Deputy Administrator Coleman expressed her concern for worsening food insecurity in Afghanistan ahead of the winter season. She also reiterated USAID’s commitment to closely coordinate on humanitarian assistance to ensure it is delivered in line with humanitarian principles and can meet the needs of the most vulnerable Afghans.

Deputy Administrator Coleman and Under-Secretary-General Griffiths also discussed his recent trip to Ethiopia and issues hindering the humanitarian response to Tigray and other regions. They agreed on the need to address increasing threats to humanitarian workers in Ethiopia, and obstructions to the delivery of critical aid to all in need across the country.
