The below is attributable to Spokesperson Jessica Jennings:‎

Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with journalist Sevgil Musaieva, editor-in-chief of Ukraine’s Ukrainska Pravda, along with representatives from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). Ms. Musaieva will be honored for her courageous reporting at the CPJ’s 32nd International Press Freedom Awards in New York on November 17.

During their meeting, Administrator Power congratulated Ms. Musaieva, and thanked her and her staff for their courage in providing the Ukrainian people – and the world – honest, accurate reporting in the face of Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. While continuing to report on the Russian Federation’s war crimes and Ukraine’s heroic resistance, Sevgil also worked to provide her media colleagues with safety gear such as flak jackets and helmets delivered by the international community.

The Administrator also emphasized the United States’ continued support for media freedom, and USAID’s commitment to journalists, independent media organizations, freelancers, and stringers around the world who are under mounting pressure – and even physical danger – for conducting their vital work. Administrator Power highlighted the U.S. government’s long-standing support for journalists, including the importance of journalists being able to report the news safely from conflict zones.
