Press Release

On Monday, May 3, 2021 at 3:00 p.m., USAID will welcome Samantha Power to be the nineteenth Administrator for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Administrator Power will deliver her first remarks to USAID employees around the world, as well as lay out priorities during her tenure in the Biden-Harris Administration.

With Administrator Power's commitment to human rights, the rule of law, and humanitarian aid, USAID will be well-positioned to reassert itself as a leader in promoting American values.

Administrator Power brings a wealth of experience to USAID, having previously served as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and as Senior Director for Human Rights and Multilateral Affairs on President Obama’s National Security Council.

Given this experience, Administrator Power will help lead America’s efforts in revitalizing global partnerships and bolstering international prosperity and security. Amid the multiple crises the U.S. faces today, Administrator Power will ensure that we look towards ending the COVID-19 pandemic, bolster self-reliance, and ensure vulnerable populations can access life-saving assistance.

During her remarks on Monday, Administrator Power will discuss the United States’ efforts to reaffirm global leadership on international development and humanitarian assistance. She will also outline USAID’s priorities in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, addressing the climate crisis, increasing workforce diversity, equity, inclusion and access, and promoting democracy and mitigating democratic backsliding.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Administrator’s remarks to the media will be available livestreamed on usaid.gov
