The below is attributable to Acting Spokesperson Pooja Jhunjhunwala:‎

Yesterday, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Administrator Samantha Power met with International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva to discuss how to strengthen the relationship between the IMF and USAID.

Administrator Power commended the IMF for its compelling report, “A Proposal to End the COVID-19 Pandemic,” noting its alignment with the U.S. Government’s own COVID-19 planning. Administrator Power and Managing Director Georgieva discussed the financial and operational requirements needed to meet the proposal’s targets for vaccinating 40 percent of the world by the end of 2021 and 60 percent by mid 2022. They discussed measures needed to accelerate the pace of vaccine financing and ending the pandemic.

Finally, Administrator Power and Managing Director Georgieva discussed how the IMF and USAID can work together to strengthen domestic resource mobilization, root out corruption, and create the conditions for private sector investment.
