On January 13, 2022, Administrator Samantha Power met with Dr. Kitaoka Shinichi, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The two discussed Global VAX, a whole-of-government initiative to accelerate efforts to turn COVID-19 vaccines into vaccinations, with a priority on scaling up support to countries in sub-Saharan Africa, as well as continued collaboration to invest in clean energy and climate-resilient projects in the Indo-Pacific and sub-Saharan Africa.
They also discussed potential collaboration between USAID and JICA during the Summit for Democracy Year of Action and efforts to address malnutrition.
