Today, Administrator Samantha Power met with President of Moldova Maia Sandu to discuss U.S. support for the people of Moldova, as well as President Sandu’s anti-corruption and democratic reform agenda.

Since February, the United States has allocated approximately $320 million in assistance to help Moldova to address the economic, energy, security, and humanitarian impacts of Russia’s war against Ukraine. Administrator Power and President Sandu discussed Moldova’s efforts to address spiking energy prices and economic disruptions caused by the war in Ukraine, and Administrator Power affirmed USAID’s commitment to supporting additional measures aimed at helping strengthen Moldova’s energy security.

Administrator Power and President Sandu also discussed USAID’s focus on partnerships with Moldova to strengthen democracy, support those on the frontlines of the fight against corruption, and advance the long-term development of the economy.
