United States Launches “Clean Cities, Blue Ocean Program” in Sri Lanka to Tackle Plastic Pollution

U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka Alaina B. Teplitz announced the first grants awarded through the U.S. government’s Clean Cities, Blue Ocean program yesterday, totaling $345,000. These grants to Sri Lankan organizations will fund projects that help protect Sri Lanka’s cities and marine resources from plastic pollution. Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary for the Ministry of Environment, joined Ambassador Teplitz at the event.

USAID’s Media Empowerment for a Democratic Sri Lanka (MEND) project strengthens the ability of the media sector to improve citizens’ access to balanced, reliable, and objective news. It works to improve media organizations’ internal management and operations; strengthen journalists’ capacity to provide informed, impartial, and ethical reporting on key policy issues; and help the media to serve as a forum for national dialogue.
United States Airlifts Emergency Supplies to Help Sri Lanka Combat Covid-19 Surge

The United States continues to stand with the people of Sri Lanka in the battle against the COVID-19 surge. Today, U.S. Embassy Charge d’Affaires Martin Kelly and Secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr. S.H. Munasinghe commemorated the donation of critically needed emergency supplies, including pulse oximeters, protective goggles, examination gloves, and KN95 masks – all of it donated by the American people at the request of the government of Sri Lanka. The donation arrived at Bandaranaike International Airport on Saturday.
