Mediation offers an opportunity for disputing parties to resolve costly business disputes quickly and avoid having to fight it out in court. While Kosovo has licensed mediators and the legal framework to regulate the process, very few civil cases are mediated each year, and almost none of them are commercial, primarily due to a lack of awareness that mediation is an option.

USAID’s Commercial Justice Activity is helping to change this by hosting a series of roundtables and information sessions for Kosovo’s Mediation Week (September 20-26, 2021) for justice leaders, private sector associations, mediators, and experienced professionals.

By engaging the private sector, USAID is helping to establish a network and platform for businesses to exchange mediation best practices and learning experiences. Moreover, events co-organized with justice Institutions and industry representative organizations like Innovation Center Kosovo, Kosovo Chamber of Commerce, and the American Chamber of Commerce reaffirm that Kosovo’s legal and justice system can respond to the needs of businesses, investors, and citizens using the legal tools already at their fingertips.
