Association of Women in the Energy Sector in Kosovo (AWESK), with the support of USAID, is establishing itself as a viable and sustainable non-governmental organization focused on promoting and supporting women in energy sector jobs. This is crucial as the energy sector in Kosovo continues to evolve.

To strengthen its role as one of the main counterparts to the Kosovo energy sector, AWESK developed a new strategy and action plan, with support from the USAID Energy Sustainability Activity, focused on the promotion of diversity and inclusion of women as active participants in Kosovo’s energy transition. To effectively implement the new strategy, AWESK aims to improve opportunities for career advancement, foster cooperation between the energy and education sectors, and promote action against climate and environmental change to ensure that women are at the center of Kosovo’s energy transition.

AWESK, which started in 2016 with USAID’s support, is the first and only civil society organization that solely focuses on gender in the energy sector. The organization now counts 140 highly trained professionals, including engineers, legal experts, IT specialists and members of academia, all  striving to promote improved diversity and inclusion in the energy sector.
