Through USAID’s 6-month internship program, USAID is supporting 15 university graduates to learn about the energy sector from the vantage point of companies actively working in the sector.  With 230 applicants, the overwhelming response to the first "NewEnergy" call reflects the interest of young people to engage in Kosovo's renewable energy development. Especially encouraging is the interest among women, who comprised 60 percent of applicants, and minority communities.

The internships will prepare graduates for job opportunities while giving employers the opportunity to train potential future leaders. If successful, the self-evident value of the program to companies and students will encourage host companies to cost-share for future classes of interns. USAID is helping improve Kosovo’s energy security by strengthening the capacity of local institutions to develop open and regionally integrated electricity markets, build resilient and sustainable power networks, and boost investment in renewable energy infrastructure.
