Press Release

December 22, 2022. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) “Digital Workforce Development” (DWD) project officially opened a new career center at the National University of Management (NUM) today.

DWD is a five-year project implemented in partnership with the University of California, Berkeley to improve educational outcomes for Cambodia’s youth and professionals in a global economy that is leaning increasingly more on technology and requires a skilled labor force.

The career center will connect universities and private sector employers to create internship programs and job opportunities for students and young professionals. The center will also meet employers’ needs for 21st century skills through a variety of training and workshops.

The USAID-funded project is introduced by multiple career centers at different partnering universities in both rural and urban areas in Cambodia to connect students in all fields of study to their chosen career paths. DWD will work with the private sector and higher education institutions, government, and local and international non-governmental organizations to foster a more productive job-placement network for Cambodia’s graduating students.

“This career center is a bridge connecting students and employers,” U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia W. Patrick Murphy said. “Students will pursue their chosen career paths, and employers will flourish with equipped and qualified applicants. We are proud to support young Cambodians to meet the demands of a rapidly growing digital workforce.”

DWD designed the career center to be an integral part of the employment ecosystem: one that will engage current students, alumni, and employers across all sectors. This self-supporting center will become a model for other universities to follow and will operate long past the project’s completion.
