On March 29, the United States launched the Digital Policy Engagement Forum to promote transparent, business-friendly digital trade policies in Cambodia, across Southeast Asia, and in Mongolia. The Forum’s opening two-day event brought together business leaders from six business chambers throughout the region to discuss issues shaping the future of the digital economy and their impact on the private sector.
U.S. Ambassador to Cambodia W. Patrick Murphy and Minister of Post and Telecommunications (MPTC) State Secretary Sok Puthyvuth addressed the Forum on March 29 at a launch event with over 100 businesspeople and officials from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Mongolia, Myanmar, and Thailand.
"The United States is committed to advancing dialogues on digital trade policy issues to promote an open, inclusive, and safe digital ecosystem across the region. We are convening networks of diverse voices to address shared policy concerns and opportunities among the private sector, governments, and civil society,” said Ambassador Murphy.
Following the two-day forum in Phnom Penh, the 10-month program will continue to engage on key issues impacting Asia’s growing digital economy, including cybersecurity, emerging tech, data protection and privacy, and open Internet access and governance.
The Digital Economy Forum is funded through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)’s Digital Asia Accelerator (DAA) and implemented by the global development company DAI and regional communications firm MangoTango Asia.
