Mr. Eddy was sworn in as USAID/Nicaragua Mission Director on June 3, 2022.  Mr. Eddy is a USAID Senior Foreign Service Officer with more than 30 years of international development experience, including 24 with USAID, specializing in private sector partnership for development, democratic governance, public administration, environmental management, crisis response, and humanitarian assistance.  He previously served as the Deputy Assistant Administrator (a) for the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) Bureau, covering the South America sub-regional office and Regional Sustainable Development technical offices.  
 
Prior to LAC, Mr. Eddy served as the Agency’s first Private Sector Engagement (PSE) Executive Director, directing cooperation among multiple Agency bureaus and teams toward implementing USAID’s signature PSE Policy and Learning Agenda.  Before this role, he served as USAID’s Director and Country Representative to Brazil and as USAID’s Mission Director to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.   
 
Previous positions include Director of the Governance and Vulnerable Populations Office at the USAID Regional Mission in Bangkok (2011-15). He also served in Bolivia (2000-2002 and 2008-2010), as Acting Mission Director and Team Leader for Democracy and Governance for USAID/Macedonia (2003-2008), and served USAID in Nicaragua (1998-2000).  Before joining USAID, Mr. Eddy worked with The World Bank (1993-97), the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, and Management Systems International – working throughout Latin America, the Caribbean, and Angola.  
 
Michael Eddy has a B.A. in Spanish, International Relations (Economics), and Political Science from the University of Wisconsin, and an M.A. in International Affairs (Regional Studies, Development) from American University.  He has also completed a post-graduate program in Disaster Management and is fluent or proficient in Spanish, Portuguese, and Macedonian.
