Michael Ronning is the USAID/Laos Country Representative. Since joining USAID in 2005, Mr. Ronning has held numerous positions with USAID in Asia, Africa, Middle East, and Washington. From 2017-2020 he served as the Director of the Asia Bureau’s Office of Technical Services, managing the technical and analytical support provided to Asia missions on issues related to democracy and governance, economic growth, health, education, environment and energy. While in Washington, Mr. Ronning also managed the merger of USAID’s Asia Bureau with the Office of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

From 2014-2017, Mr. Ronning served as the Director of USAID Burma’s Office of Democracy, Governance and Humanitarian Assistance. Mr Ronning has also had postings with USAID in Afghanistan, Iraq, Uganda, and West Bank/Gaza.

Prior to joining USAID, Mr. Ronning worked for American Councils for International Education in Russia and was a United States Peace Corps volunteer in Latvia. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in International Relations and Spanish and a Master's Degree in International Relations.
