Kenneth [Ken] MacLean has been the Mission Director of the United States Agency for International Development in Honduras (USAID/Honduras) since June 2023. Prior to assuming his position as Mission Director in Honduras, he served as Deputy Director from July 2020 to May 2023.

Prior to his arrival in Honduras, Ken headed the Democracy and Governance (DG) Office in Guatemala. His portfolio included USAID/Guatemala’s citizen security work in justice/rule of law and crime and violence prevention targeting gang or narco-controlled areas with high homicide rates.

Prior to joining USAID/Guatemala, Ken was the head of the Latin American and Caribbean Bureau’s Democracy and Human Rights Team in Washington D.C. He also served as the Director of the Democracy and Governance Office in Nicaragua where he led a complicated portfolio supporting civil society, independent media, and good governance. Before arriving in Nicaragua, Mr. MacLean worked in Yemen as the Acting Director of USAID’s Technical Office and served as the Senior Development Advisor in the Erbil Consulate in Iraq where he coordinated USAID programs in Northern Iraq and was the primary liaison for development activities with the Kurdish Regional Government.

Ken has over 25 years of international development experience around the world. Before joining USAID, he managed and led development and humanitarian programs in Russia, Indonesia, India, Kenya, and South Sudan. In addition, Ken has worked in the private sector in technology and privatization consulting. He has a Master’s in Foreign Service from Georgetown University and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Isenberg School of Business of the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He was born and raised in Massachusetts.
