Mr. Scott Hocklander is a senior US diplomat currently serving in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as the Mission Director for USAID/Ethiopia and USAID/Djibouti. Prior to his current assignment, Scott spent four years as the Mission Director for USAID/Moldova in Chisinau, Moldova. Mr. Hocklander also served as the Deputy Mission Director in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and as the Director of the Office of Democracy and Governance Office in Afghanistan, the Office of Economic Growth and Agriculture Office in Pakistan, and the Office of Assets and Livelihoods in Transition Office in Ethiopia. A career member of the senior foreign service, Scott also worked for USAID’s Office of US Foreign Disaster Assistance, Office of Food for Peace, and Office of Transition Initiatives serving on disaster response and development teams in Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and the Caribbean. Mr. Hocklander began his career with the federal government in 1995 with the US Department of Agriculture serving on a US Forest Service “hotshot” firefighting crew and as a smokejumper fighting wildland fires for the US Department of the Interior in Alaska. He also spent two years in Washington, DC with the International Programs of the US Forest Service. A native of Gooding, Idaho, Mr. Hocklander attended the American University in Bulgaria, received a B.S. in Political Science from Willamette University, and holds an M.A. in Development Studies from The George Washington University.
