Ricardo Michel
Director, Center for Transformational Partnerships

Ricardo Michel is the director of the Center for Transformational Partnerships in the U.S.  Global Development Lab at USAID, responsible for the overall strategic direction to best use local and global public-private partnerships for accelerated sustainable development. Previously, Michel served as acting director for the Office of Innovation and Development Alliances, where he oversaw the agency’s efforts to find innovative solutions, including mobile technology and public-private partnerships, to address development challenges. Michel also served as the senior adviser for economic growth and trade in the Agency’s Bureau for Africa.

Before joining USAID in November 2010, Michel served at the Export-Import Bank of the United States as senior project officer in the Project and Structured Finance Division and as international business development officer for Africa. He also worked as an independent consultant for both domestic and international clients, including a newly established private equity fund in Botswana and the African Development Foundation.

Michel’s background includes working as an investment banker for JPMorgan Securities Inc., and service overseas for a major reinsurance company located in Bermuda. He also served as a certified public accountant and auditor for Arthur Andersen LLP in Philadelphia and Bermuda.

Michel received a Master’s Degree in business administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He is a cum laude graduate of Temple University’s Scholastic Honors Program and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting.
