Mission Director

Michael Greene assumed the position of Mission Director for USAID/Vietnam in July 2016. Mr. Greene, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, was the Director of the newly-established USAID Mission in the Kyrgyz Republic from 2013-2016, and the Mission Director for USAID/Azerbaijan from 2011 to 2013. Before Azerbaijan, he served as Director of the Regional Platform for Western Afghanistan in 2009-2011, where he oversaw all USAID stabilization and development field staff, programs, and operations.

Mr. Greene was the Director of the Office of Alternative Development Programs in USAID/Peru from 2005-2009, managing a multi-sectoral portfolio of programs supporting the development of alternative livelihoods for thousands of families in the coca-growing valleys of the Peruvian Amazon.

His other USAID posts have included: Director of the Offices of Private Sector Development in Croatia from 2000-2005 and in Armenia from 1998-2000; Supervisory Executive Officer in the Dominican Republic from 1994-1998; Deputy Executive Officer in Bolivia from 1993-1994; Disaster Assistance Coordinator in Bangladesh from 1987-1988; and Manager of the Coastal Reconstruction Project in Ecuador in 1985-1986.

Mr. Greene holds an MBA in International Finance from the George Washington University and a J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School. He is joined by his wife Charlotte Bentch.
