Janean Davis
Deputy Assistant Administrator

Janean Davis is a Deputy Assistant Administrator in the Bureau for Africa. She has over 20 years of U.S. and international development experience, including work with the New Jersey Department of Health and several community and international organizations. She taught mathematics as a U.S. Peace Corps volunteer in Tanzania.

After joining USAID in 2004, Janean served in the United States as a Civil Servant, then converted to the Foreign Service and served in Rwanda, Tanzania, Pakistan, and Ghana. She also completed rotations with the Office of the Global AIDS Coordinator (OGAC) and the Office of Congressman Donald Payne. She most recently served as USAID/Ghana’s Acting Mission Director, providing strategic and management direction for the five-year, $701 million USAID country strategy to advance accountability, sustainable systems, and inclusive development.

Janean is a native of New Jersey and a mother of three daughters. She completed her undergraduate degrees in mathematics and industrial engineering from Spelman College and Georgia Institute of Technology, and joint graduate degrees in International Health and International Development at the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health and School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). Janean is fluent in Swahili and conversational in French.
