Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives

USAID collaborates with faith-based and community groups to improve the sustainability of the Agency's programs and support partner countries’ self-reliance.

Faith-based and community organizations serve some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged parts of the world. These organizations’ networks, insights, and resources give them an often underutilized ability to help address global development challenges.

The Center for Faith and Opportunity Initiatives (CFOI) works to strengthen USAID’s collaboration with faith-based and community organizations in the following ways:

  1. Bridging USAID and faith-based and community groups by eliminating barriers that these groups face while seeking to partner with the Agency.  CFOI’s services include connecting groups with appropriate contacts in the Agency, offering strategic resources and guidance, and providing grant information.
  2. Convening faith-based and community groups with each other and with the U.S. Government to catalyze collaboration.
  3. Strengthening USAID’s capacity to work with faith-based and community organizations by identifying and applying evidence-based research on the value they add to development programming.
  4. Coordinating USAID’s implementation of relevant U.S. foreign policy priorities, such as protecting and promoting religious freedom
