Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator

Christine Gottschalk serves as the Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator in the USAID Bureau for Resilience and Food Security, where she has served as the Director of the Center for Resilience since 2018. In this role, she oversees the Agency’s strategy and approach to strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities in areas subject to recurrent crises. 

Ms. Gottschalk began her career with USAID in 2002. In her tenure, she has supported emergency responses in Sudan, South Sudan, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen as well as responses to food insecurity in the Horn of Africa and Ebola in West Africa. Her technical expertise includes humanitarian assistance and crisis response, post-conflict peace-building and reconstruction, and food security. 

Ms. Gottschalk also served as the Director for Humanitarian Assistance on the National Security Council (NSC) from 2015 to 2016. She holds a master's degree in social work from the University of Michigan, and a bachelor's degree in anthropology from George Mason University.
