Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator

Melissa Patsalides is Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator in USAID’s Bureau for Policy, Planning and Learning (PPL). She is a seasoned international development professional with nearly 20 years of experience focused on program planning and effectiveness.

She previously directed USAID’s Office of Learning, Evaluation and Research, where she oversaw development and implementation of policy for evaluation, monitoring and learning for USAID programs worldwide. Her 15-year career at USAID has spanned the Europe & Eurasia, Asia and Middle East regions with substantial assignments in the field, including as the USAID officer on a Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan.

Prior to joining USAID, Melissa consulted for an advocacy group in New York focused on the United Nations, worked for a human rights organization in France and served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Cote d’Ivoire. Melissa received a Master’s degree in international relations/development from the University of Denver’s Graduate School for International Studies (now the Joseph Korbel School for International Studies) and a dual Bachelor of Arts in international relations and foreign languages from West Virginia University.
