USAID's Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean responds to critical development challenges in the region by promoting the U.S. Government's foreign policy priorities, building stronger partnerships with our neighbors and supporting thriving economies and stable democracies that deliver to citizens. USAID’s focus on hemispheric stability is especially important given the region's close proximity to the United States and direct impact on America's national security and prosperity.

With 14 bilateral missions and country offices, four regional programs, and Washington-based programs focusing on Cuba and Venezuela – USAID’s main areas of work in the region include expanding economic growth, improving health and education outcomes, conserving biodiversity and addressing climate change, managing migration, tackling corruption and promoting good governance, reducing gender-based violence, and other development objectives.

The LAC bureau works closely with local actors in the region, national and subnational governments, civil society, the private sector, U.S. Government agencies, multilateral development banks, and international organizations to help develop local capacity to achieve sustainable results.
