Global progress on water and sanitation is possible. USAID’s water and sanitation assistance has resulted in millions of people gaining access to improved drinking water and sanitation services, globally. 

Since 2008, USAID’s water and sanitation assistance has resulted in 42 million people gaining access to improved drinking water and more than 27 million people gaining access to improved sanitation, globally. As a result of USAID programs, communities around the world are benefiting from access to improved water and sanitation services.

Results

Number of people gaining access to an improved drinking water service: Cumulative, 42 million; FY 2017, 3. million. Number of people gaining access to an improved sanitation service: Cumulative, 27.3 million; F& 2017, 3.2 million. Women and Girls gaining access to an improved drinking water service: FY 2017 1.7 million. Women and Girls gaining access to an improved sanitation service: FY 2017 1.9 million
