The Power Africa West Africa Energy Program (WAEP) aims to expand supply and access to affordable and reliable grid-connected electricity services in West Africa.

OPTIMIZING POWER SUPPLY

Power Africa provides a range of transaction advisory services to advance power projects to financial close and turn lights on. Our advisory services are designed to provide active support to transactions across the entire lifecycle. Support is tailored to the specific needs of each individual transaction as determined by scoping phases and coordinated with the work of technical, policy, gender and finance experts.

INCREASING GRID-BASED POWER CONNECTIONS

Power Africa aims to create an enabling environment for investment in electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution. Our ongoing collaboration with the public and private sector will create alternate financing models, determine the least-cost power distribution options, reduce connection costs and increase access to electricity

STRENGTHENING UTILITIES AND OTHER POWER-SECTOR ENTITIES

Through human and institutional capacity training programs, Power Africa will strengthen the performance of utilities and national regulatory authorities. Power Africa will also support the development of laws and policies that reduce risk and open energy markets for capital investment to ensure long-term sector viability.

ACCELERATING REGIONAL POWER TRADE

West Africa needs urgent support for priority power infrastructure, system capacity building, and cross-border energy trade that will enable countries to purchase more affordable surplus power from neighbors. Power Africa is working to accelerate regional power trade through coordinated assistance to regional power authorities including the West Africa Power Pool and the ECOWAS Regional Electricity Regulatory Authority, support to harmonize regional and national plans, and focused assistance to select countries for the delivery of priority regional transmission projects.
