From Waste to Innovative Space - YALI alumnus, Awuku Makafu's, bus shelter made of 700 kg of recycled materials.

Awuku Makafui, a YALI Regional Learning Center (RLC) alumnus, built the first bus shelter in Accra, Ghana, out of 700 kg of recycled plastic materials. It is 24 feet wide; sits 16 adults; has rooftop solar panels that provide power to a USB charging point, and even has a radio installed for easy listening.

Makafui Awuku is a member of Team Sankara, winner of the Dow / YALI Accra RLC Design Challenge in Sustainable Waste Management and a winner of the third call of the YALI Alumni Innovation Fund. He is an innovator, activist and conservationist determined to prevent plastic from going back into the environment.
