Nam Dinh Province was an industrial center in northern Vietnam during the early 1990s, but today, economic development is stagnant due to a local garment industry that has failed to maintain its competitiveness. In its new local development strategy for 2021-2025, Nam Dinh has identified promoting the marine and coastal economy as the driving force of its long-term development. On July 13, the USAID Vietnam Leads activity conducted a workshop in Nam Dinh in support of this effort. Participants analyzed and discussed the advantages, challenges, solutions, and approaches to developing the province’s marine and coastal economy. The event was chaired by Nguyen Xuan Thang, the President of Ho Chi Minh Academy and a Politburo member, and Pham Gia Tuc, the Nam Dinh Province’s Party General Secretary, with the participation of more than 100 experts and senior provincial officials.

Through this activity, USAID is helping the province to mobilize resources from both the public and private sectors and maximize its strengths for sustainable provincial development.
