On January 26, Tay Ninh provincial authorities recognized USAID’s remarkable achievements in providing support to people with disabilities. Over the past five years, through assistance from USAID projects Access for All, Disability Rights Enforcement, Coordination and Therapies, and Disabilities Integration of Services and Therapies Network for Capacity and Treatment, more than 7,500 people with disabilities in Tay Ninh province have received rehabilitation therapies , assistive devices, home modifications, and inclusive education services. Additionally, due to USAID support, Tay Ninh province now benefits from hundreds of trained practitioners in rehabilitation services and therapies, including 33 specialized doctors, a speech therapist, 41 kindergarten teachers with degrees in special education, and hundreds of other instructors who received training in early childhood developmental disability detection and intervention. USAID has also promoted the establishment of organizations for persons with disabilities  and there are currently 10 such clubs in Tay Ninh, creating a fundamental and critical enabling environment for participation in social activities and to raise public awareness.

So what? With USAID’s support, Tay Ninh has become the provincial model of service delivery, health system strengthening and inclusive participation of persons with disabilities. USAID and Tay Ninh will continue to work in partnership toward developing a multi-disciplinary service delivery system, refining support for people with severe disabilities and serving as a model for other provinces to follow, further strengthening Vietnam on its journey to self-reliance.
