Medical oxygen is essential in the treatment of several diseases, including COVID-19, chronic lung and other respiratory diseases. However, in Vietnam, on-site oxygen storage at smaller and provincial hospitals is rare, necessitating dependence on regular oxygen deliveries. Oxygen can run out in times of surge demand, as happened during waves of the COVID-19 pandemic. To address this, in 2022, USAID provided 13 hospitals in five provinces in Vietnam with liquid oxygen systems that provide a reliable supply of medical oxygen to thousands of additional patients. On September 26, USAID announced it will provide 10 more systems to hospitals across six additional provinces, located in some of the poorest and most remote areas of Vietnam.

USAID’s installation of 23 liquid oxygen systems at hospitals across the country strengthens the nation’s health care system and saves lives.
