Air pollution is considered the world’s greatest environmental threat to health. USAID’s Collective Action for Clean Air project fosters collective action by local actors (Government of Vietnam, the private sector, social organizations, and citizens) to address air pollution and become responsible for solving their environmental health issues.
NETWORKING AND BUILDING COALITIONS ON AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT
This project builds on the momentum and joint work of local actors started in 2017 by the forerunner USAID Clean Air Green Cities project. By maintaining and expanding the established clean air network, USAID Collective Action for Clean Air promotes and supports knowledge sharing, networking activities, and cooperation opportunities to engage relevant stakeholders to advocate for better environmental health and air pollution policies.
COLLECTIVE ACTION TO PROMOTE BEHAVIOR CHANGE, FACILITATE POLICY DIALOGUE, AND ADVOCATE FOR BETTER AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT
Along with raising awareness and supporting community activities on clean air, USAID Collective Action for Clean Air encourages the interests and participation of citizens in air quality management via citizen science programs that contribute to the monitoring and mitigation of urban pollutants, particularly in regions lacking resources and data. These programs support scientists, NGOs, companies, and government agencies to advocate and promote evidence-based environmental policies.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Collective Action for Clean Air will mobilize and connect its current network with a minimum of 50 additional local actors from multiple sectors to work together to advocate for policies to make a positive change in air pollution and related health issues in Vietnam, and provide more than 500,000 citizens, including more than 100 youth groups, schools and universities, access to information and educational materials to improve air pollution awareness and action. This project will also support the development of both provincial and national air quality management policies through close coordination with the Government of Vietnam.
