Part of the USAID-FAO Global Health Security Program, this project in Vietnam has been developed in close consultation between FAO Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases in Vietnam and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and will expand on One Health, a collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary approach—working at the local, regional, national, and global levels—with the goal of achieving optimal health outcomes recognizing the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment.
BUILDING ON PREVIOUS SUCCESS
This project will build upon the success and lessons learnt from the Emerging Pandemic Threats project and address the continually evolving and constantly changing complexity of emerging infectious diseases, anti-microbial resistance (AMR), and bio-threats epidemiology in the region.
FURTHERING ONE HEALTH
Through this project Vietnam can further enhance One Health multi-sectoral collaboration, enhance awareness and behavior change, build national capacities for surveillance of AMR, and conduct antimicrobial stewardship activities.
EVIDENCE TO POLICY
Specifically, this project will: 1) enhance management of public health risks through improved monitoring and sharing information on zoonoses and AMR across all sectors; 2) reduce the risk of zoonoses and AMR to emerge and be transmitted along the animal production chain; and 3) design evidence-based policy instruments on zoonoses, AMR, and animal production.
(EXPECTED) RESULTS
Strengthen animal health systems to reduce the risks and impacts of emerging infectious diseases, AMR, and bio-threats through an inclusive One Health approach.
