Today the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) handed over essential medical equipment to healthcare facilities in Djizzak to assist the region in its fight against tuberculosis (TB). Representatives of the USAID Mission to Uzbekistan, the National Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Center, and the Djizzak Regional Health Administration participated in the handover.

Today, the United States through its Agency for International Development (USAID) handed over urgently needed cold chain equipment and computers to the Ministry of Health of Uzbekistan to strengthen Uzbekistan’s national immunization system. The equipment, which includes 671 refrigerators, 212 freezers, and 150 computers worth $1.3 million in total, will bolster Uzbekistan’s ability to implement functional, effective vaccine management. This critically needed equipment will be distributed to primary care health facilities around the country.
Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) launched IT Women – Karakalpakstan - a comprehensive information communication technologies (ICT) training program for rural women and girls in the Republic of Karakalpakstan. The program provides training in essential ICT skills that will empower women to take advantage of a broad range of employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

May 24, 2022, Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Today, a United States delegation which included Department of State Assistant Secretary Donald Lu and United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Deputy Assistant Administrator for the Asia Bureau Anjali Kaur met with aspiring women entrepreneurs at the “Toshkent Gullari” Floristic School. The goal of the visit to the school was to witness first-hand how U.S. government (through USAID) assistance is contributing to women’s economic empowerment in Uzbekistan.

May 5, 2022, Tashkent, Uzbekistan – Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) jointly with the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan disseminated the results of the first-ever National Early Grade Reading and Early Grade Mathematics Assessments (EGRA and EGMA). The data collected on student reading and math skills will help the Ministry make informed decisions to further strengthen ongoing reform efforts.

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Agribusiness Development activity announced a call for applications from researchers and research teams within its Applied Research Initiatives Support Program. USAID plans to support Uzbekistan’s academic research community to conduct practical research in order to provide solutions to challenges faced by agribusinesses in Uzbekistan.

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) held a capstone event to mark the achievements made by its Local Health System Sustainability (LHSS) COVID-19 response activity. LHSS, which was implemented by Abt Associates Incorporated., and launched at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020. The LHSS activity supported a coordinated national emergency response led by the Ministry of Health and helped build the resilience of the health system against future shocks.

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) held the “International Cooperation in Promoting Gender Equality” conference. The event brought together approximately 100 representatives from Uzbekistan’s Parliament and various national and international institutions, including experts from civil society organizations and academia. The conference discussed best practices in promoting gender equality, including methods to prevent gender-based violence and to strengthen the role of women in public life, as well as the effects of the implementation of new gender legislation in Uzbekistan, such as the Gender Equality Law and the Law on Protection from Gender-Based Violence, both adopted in 2019.
