Supporting the Transition and Electoral Processes” (STEP) activity

Guinea experienced the fourth military coup since its independence on September 5, 2021, when the Guinean Special Forces removed former President Alpha Condé following a period of political turmoil, civil unrest, and an unconstitutional third term. Despite these challenges, USAID continues to bolster Guinea’s return to democratic rule through programs to establish a more inclusive, transparent, and credible electoral process, and encourage citizens to participate in elections and political processes as voters and candidates. USAID also champions the human rights of all people living in Guinea by supporting peaceful engagement, improvements to the justice sector, and delivery of accessible public services through effective local governance.
