The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID)-funded Safe Migration in Central Asia activity, implemented by Winrock International, partnered with non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Central Asia to hold a four-day online campaign dedicated to International Migrants Day, marked annually on December 18. The campaign shared stories of migrants to raise awareness on migrants’ rights. More than a dozen NGOs from Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan joined the online campaign to tell stories of migrants who improved their lives after returning home and receiving support from the USAID-funded Safe Migration in Central Asia activity.

Lawrence Hardy II Arrives as USAID Regional Mission Director to Central Asia

The U.S. Mission to Turkmenistan is pleased to announce Lawrence Hardy II, a career member of the Senior Foreign Service, has arrived in Almaty as the new Regional Mission Director for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Central Asia. Mr. Hardy will lead USAID’s regional programs across Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. USAID Administrator Samantha Power administered the oath of office at USAID Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

USAID announces New Central Asia Trade Activity

Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced a new $19 million five-year activity, USAID Trade Central Asia, that will be implemented in Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. The new trade activity will build on USAID’s decades of achievements facilitating regional trade, enterprise development, and regional connectivity. USAID Trade Central Asia will take a facilitative approach towards three strategic objectives, providing the public and private sector with technical assistance to achieve these goals.
