The U.S. Government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), is donating to the Government of Tunisia $4 million of critical laboratory and case management equipment that will increase the capacity of hospitals across Tunisia in responding to COVID-19. Working in partnership with the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), the U.S. Government delivered the first of three shipments of vital equipment that will provide needed support to hospitals nationwide working to respond to the needs of patients suffering from COVID-19.

This donation of equipment directly supports the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 Response Plan, and includes 55 upright freezers, 270 high flow oxygen generators, 308 modular infusion stations, 200 oximeters, 110 surface disinfection machines, 20 water treatment units, and 66 video laryngoscopes.

Since March 2020, the U.S. Government has provided Tunisia with more than $36 million in COVID-19 support to address immediate health care needs as well as longer term impacts.

"This new delivery of life-saving COVID-19 equipment destined for hospitals across the country is a reflection of the U.S. Government’s commitment to strengthening Tunisia’s capacity to prevent, detect and respond to infectious diseases, including the Coronavirus,” U.S. Ambassador Donald Blome said.

For decades, the United States has been the world’s largest provider of bilateral assistance in health. Since 2009, American taxpayers have funded more than $100 billion in health assistance, and nearly $70 billion in humanitarian assistance, around the world.
