Today, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in partnership with the U.S. Department of State launched Safe from the Start ReVisioned, an initiative that focuses on improving and expanding protection services for women and girls from the start of every conflict or disaster. Because crises like natural disasters or conflicts exacerbate conditions of inequality, they disproportionately impact women and girls.

Administrator Power and Dr. Sohn discussed the USAID-KOICA work plan for 2023–2025, which outlines a three-year plan to work together to address some of the world’s most pressing challenges, including increasing assistance to Ukraine in response to Russia’s brutal war, bolstering the Indo-Pacific’s resilience to climate change, and addressing global public health.

The global mpox outbreak and an Ebola outbreak in Uganda are just two of the most recent examples of how the risks and impact of emerging infectious diseases are increasing daily, and how global systems remain ill-equipped to identify and contain these threats. The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announces the launch of the second phase of its Environmental Restoration of the Aral Sea activity. USAID will provide up to $1.6 million, subject to the availability of funds, to expand the project from Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan, which will improve resilience to the adverse effects of desertification in the Aral Sea region by growing new forests.
